Description

This course encompasses teaching the skills and techniques common to research and development laboratories focusing on the cloning, expression, and purification of recombinant proteins. Students in this course progress through a series of graduated laboratory exercises and lecture sessions culminating in a group project that bring together the cognitive and technical skills necessary for success in the biotechnology industry. Specific skills taught include the Polymerase Chain Reaction, creation of recombinant DNA molecules, isolation and characterization of DNA, protein assays, DNA and protein electrophoreses, immunoblotting and ELISA assays. 2 lecture hours and up to 9 laboratory hours per week.
