Description

A grade of C or higher is required to progress through the course sequence. The objective of the class piano course for non-keyboard majors is to develop functional keyboard skills that will allow students to cope with practical situations within the Music Department and in their chosen career field. It is designed for students who have had some or no previous study of the instrument. Through technical exercises, ensemble playing, sight-reading, transposition, and improvisation, students acquire skills that will enable them to read and play piano music. The successful student will also be able to play major and minor scales, arpeggios, primary chord progressions, harmonization exercises, and repertoire pieces. At the conclusion of the course se- quence, all music majors must pass a piano proficiency examination as one of his or her graduation requirements.
